Set in Melilla, the autonomous city of Spain situated on the north coast of Africa, this heartfelt family drama centers around the matriarch, Alegría, and the multi-dimensional relationships with the women in her circle. Alegría returns to her native Melilla for the Sephardic wedding of her niece and reunites with her daughter who she hasn’t seen in years. A bright dramady about multiculturalism and the convergence of Christian, Jewish and Muslim cultures, Alegría is an homage to a city whose vivid contrasts and blended cultures perfectly reflect the contour of the characters’ interconnected lives.
