Join us for lunch and a talk with George Schwartz, associate curator at the Peabody Essex Museum, who will discuss his book, Collecting the Globe: The Salem East India Marine Society Museum. The East India Marine Society Museum, which ultimately became the internationally acclaimed Peabody Essex Museum, was one of the most influential collecting institutions in the country from 1799 to 1867. Schwartz will offer fresh perspectives on pre-Civil War museums and how they helped shape an American identity.
Masks required.
