SUMMARY:Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:at the Higgins Middle School\, 85 Perkins Street\,  Peabody\, MA \nPlease join the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Salem State University (CHGS) for its annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony. This year’s program will feature a memorial service and prayers\, the Salem State University Community Chorus\, and a conversation with Karen Kirsten\, an Australian-American author and Holocaust educator. She is the author of Irena’s Gift\, a 2025 National Jewish Book Award finalist and winner of two Zibby Awards. \nThis ceremony is supported by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston. \nThe ceremony is free and open to the public. It will take place in person and will also be livestreamed on Zoom. Registration is required: We encourage you to attend in person. \nPlease email chgs@salemstate.edu if you have any questions. \nKaren Kirsten grew up among refugees who didn’t talk about the past. Determined to understand the generational trauma that cloaked her family in silence\, and to help heal her mother’s pain\, Karen meticulously reconstructed an extraordinary saga. After several research trips to Poland\, Karen reunited her mother with the heroes who had hidden her as a child and then facilitated awarding them Righteous Among the Nations medals. \nPlease register below. \n\nRSVP (in-person)\n\n\nZoom link

SUMMARY:2026 Music Concert Series at Salem State University
DESCRIPTION:Explorers Lifelong Learning Institute at the Center for Creative and Performing Arts \nPre-concert lecture with Peter Sheckman begins at 2:30pm \nApril 19th: Trio Oko\nCharles Overton\nEmma Powell\nMina kim \nConcerts are free\, but space is limited.  Please register at right. (Limit of 2 tickets per person.) \n  \nAbout Trio Oko:\nPraised for their “profound communication\,” and “thoughtful choices of timbre\, articulation\, dynamic contrast\, and balance\,” Trio Oko is a harp trio based in Boston consisting of violinist Emma Powell\, cellist Mina Kim\, and harpist Charles Overton. The three musicians met at Tanglewood Music Center in 2016 and united with a mutual belief in the power of music to create meaningful human connections to form Trio Oko. The ensemble aims to expand the harp trio repertoire by commissioning new works and arrangements. They intend to showcase the diverse capabilities inherent to this distinctive instrumentation. \nTrio Oko shared the Japanese dish okonomiyaki (cooked by the master chef\, Emma!) in their first rehearsal along with giggles (hence\, Oko—) and happily committed to bringing joy to concert halls through their collaborations and friendship. \n  \n       \n

SUMMARY:Charles Grodin: Rebel With a Cause
DESCRIPTION:Charles Grodin: Rebel With a Cause is a lively and revealing documentary about the beloved actor-comedian whose signature deadpan humor made him a standout in American film and television. Through archival clips and interviews with friends and collaborators\, the film celebrates Grodin’s unforgettable performances while exploring the intelligence and humanity behind his comedy. In a powerful second act\, Grodin became a passionate activist\, using his platform to champion prison reform and help free wrongly convicted people. This inspiring portrait honors a singular talent who blended humor\, conscience\, and a deep commitment to making the world more just. \n\nGet Tickets

SUMMARY:Holding Liat
DESCRIPTION:On the morning of October 7\, 2023\, Israeli-American Liat Atzili and her husband Aviv are at home when militants from Hamas attack their kibbutz. By nightfall\, the couple has been taken captive to Gaza along with more than 250 others—two of them\, like Liat\, are American citizens. As international diplomacy unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly escalating war\, their family confronts uncertainty and deep political differences while fighting for Liat and Aviv’s release. The agonizing wait—and the ultimate fate of their loved ones—forces each member of the family to reconsider who they are and where they stand in the conflict. \nFor all of the “Monday Matinees” at the Warwick enjoy 10% off at the Beacon Lobster Room Cafe which will open at 10:00AM! \nClick HERE for menu. \n \n Get Tickets

SUMMARY:Night of Shorts
DESCRIPTION:With introduction and facilitated Q&A by with Jewish tattoo artist Sayge Hesse. \nButterfly:Butterfly is an animated short film that chronicles the life of Alfred Nakache\, a Jewish French Olympic swimmer. From his childhood and rise as a butterfly-stroke champion to the horrors of Auschwitz\, where he lost his wife and child\, the film follows Nakache’s remarkable survival and return to the pool. Nominated for Best Animated Short at the 2026 Academy Awards and a César\, Butterfly is a moving portrait of resilience and triumph. \nDouble Happiness:Double Happiness is a romantic dramedy that begins where most love stories end—with a shiva. For forty years\, Lillian Zelman\, a 75-year-old Jewish spitfire\, and Richard Wang\, a stoic Chinese-American restaurateur\, have crossed paths every Christmas (as it is written in the Talmud\, of course). When they reconnect after the death of Lillian’s husband\, shared grief turns into companionship—and perhaps\, unexpectedly\, into love. \nHalf a Date:Tzvi\, an ultra-Orthodox yeshiva student\, arrives at a military recruitment office expecting to receive a routine deferral from service. Instead\, he becomes entangled in a bureaucratic mix-up that threatens his status at the yeshiva. Assigned to process his paperwork is Carmel\, a soldier his own age. Alone together in the office\, they form an unlikely connection over the newspaper’s daily crossword puzzle\, which they begin solving together. For a brief moment\, they glimpse the possibility that in another life they might have been the closest of friends—perhaps even something more. \nThe Last Jews of Guantanamo: \nThe Last Jews of Guantanamo explores a tiny\, resilient Jewish community of roughly 50 people in Guantanamo\, Cuba. The film follows two octogenarian women\, Fortuna and Lidia\, as they prepare for their Bat Mitzvah while navigating daily life—from shopping to candle lighting. Against the backdrop of a small and often isolated community\, it celebrates their efforts to sustain faith\, tradition\, and connection across generations. \nTattooed4Life:Liraz\, a survivor of the Nova Music Festival massacre\, transforms her tattoo needle into an instrument of remembrance. Her mission: to immortalize the 364 souls who perished that day. Through fractal tattoos\, she weaves their stories of loss\, fear\, faith\, love\, and hope into the very fabric of skin. Each inked line becomes a thread of healing\, stitching together the trauma left by October 7. The film captures the transformative power of art\, as Liraz’s creations serve as both memorials and symbols of resilience—a living testament to the human spirit\, seeking connection\, solace\, and redemption through creativity. \n \n Get Tickets

SUMMARY:Rosenthal: The Great Showman
DESCRIPTION:Based on the astonishing true story of one of Germany’s most beloved TV icons\, this absorbing period drama follows Hans Rosenthal\, a national superstar whose vibrant on-air charm conceals the wounds of surviving the war. In 1978\, at the height of his fame\, he learns that a milestone live episode of his hit game show coincides with the 40th anniversary of Kristallnacht\, the pogrom that shattered his family and forced him into hiding as a teen. As the countdown to air begins\, celebrity\, conscience\, and the weight of history collide\, compelling him to confront buried memories\, self-doubt\, and a nation eager to move on. \nFor all of the “Monday Matinees” at the Warwick enjoy 10% off at the Beacon Lobster Room Cafe which will open at 10:00AM! \nClick HERE for menu. \n  \n \n Get Tickets
