On the morning of October 7, 2023, Israeli-American Liat Atzili and her husband Aviv are at home when militants from Hamas attack their kibbutz. By nightfall, the couple has been taken captive to Gaza along with more than 250 others—two of them, like Liat, are American citizens. As international diplomacy unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly escalating war, their family confronts uncertainty and deep political differences while fighting for Liat and Aviv’s release. The agonizing wait—and the ultimate fate of their loved ones—forces each member of the family to reconsider who they are and where they stand in the conflict.
