The JCCNS J Adventure program is our award-winning after-school program for children in Grades K-6. After-school classes are available for children in J Adventure childcare and are also open to the community. Class Descriptions are below. Beginner swimmers learn basic swimming skills in this fun-focused class. We’ll practice blowing bubbles, floating, and kicking all while introducing independent swimming. They will learn beginner rotary breathing with front crawl and beginner back crawl. Participants will be introduced to proper break stroke arm motions. **Class will open to non-J Adventure participants after 2 weeks.**
The focus of this Volleyball class is to give learners an introduction to volleyball games through discussion, interactive games, demonstrations, and physical activities. This class is intended for learners who have no prior experience with volleyball, or those who have had experience, but would like to learn more. Course content includes basic rules and terms, points and scoring, an introduction to three fundamental skills (passing, setting, hitting), and activities and games to reinforce proper volleyball technique
Join our After-School Book Club, where kids can discover exciting stories, share their thoughts, and engage in fun activities inspired by what they read! Each week, we will enjoy read-aloud and discussions that bring books to life. This club is a fantastic way to build a love for reading, develop literacy skills, and make new friends in a fun and welcoming environment. We cannot wait to start this reading adventure together!
This is a ballet, jazz, and tap combination class that will give the students a foundation and exposure to all three types of dance. The combo class helps keep the children excited, interested, and focused.

Nature walks, grow their own herbs/plants and learn to appreciate nature and recycling. Nature related crafts/projects – including making their own Garden Gnomes

Crafting with a Brush will help our young artist become young Bob Rosses. We will spend the time painting creations on different multimedia. These classes will promote creativity and happy accidents.
Beginner Chess is the perfect introduction for new players looking to learn the fundamentals of the game. Students will explore how each piece moves, basic strategies, and simple openings to build confidence. Classes include fun challenges, guided practice, and plenty of opportunities to play with peers. Participants will also learn sportsmanship and how to think ahead during a match. By the end of the session, players will have the skills to enjoy friendly games and continue growing their chess knowledge. No prior experience is needed!

With two classes each week, students will have more time to build stronger acting skills, learn simple choreography, and rehearse as an ensemble. The additional day allows the group to work toward a more polished, production-style performance at the end of the session. Students will explore character work, staging, teamwork, and confidence-building activities in a supportive environment. Whether they’re brand new to theater or returning from past sessions, performers will enjoy a fun, collaborative space to shine. At the end of the session, students will perform “The Wiz” for families. All experience levels are welcome!

The popular video game comes to life with our NEW Just Dance after-school class! Combining physical activity and music hits that have made the video game a fan-favorite, this Just Dance class features a fun environment where participants can express themselves through dance, movement, and music. Provides physical activity combined with socializing and fun! No prior dance training required. All levels are welcome!

Students will alternate between creating and painting their own clay pieces. Together we will work on forming pinch pots, creating mystical animals, jewelry, and catching all trays. We will start with creating our pieces then the week after we will paint! We will use diverse types of clay during the class. Using each unique type to make a new project.
Mini Einstein’s is a mix of using our creativity and hands-on building skills. Participants are tasked with the end goal of building something incredible over the course of 2-3 weeks, at which point we’ll test out their newly created projects. This class is great for kids who love to use their imagination and work with their hands. Taught by Zach Dixey, who has been studying elementary education.
General objectives are to promote sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun and positive setting. Participants will have the opportunity to gain experience the rules and fundamentals of floor hockey including stick handling and shooting.
Yoga for kids is a wonderful way to develop a strong and flexible body, and increase balance, body awareness, and coordination. Yoga calms the mind and body, reduces anxiety, promotes self-confidence, and develops discipline and self-control. Kids can build a healthy lifestyle with a routine that includes yoga.

In this brand-new class, students will dive into the fun of filmmaking by creating their own short movie from concept to final cut. They’ll explore the basics of scriptwriting, acting, filming, and simple directing through hands-on, age-appropriate activities. Each week will highlight a different part of the movie-making process, giving students the chance to experiment with shots, scenes, and storytelling. Working together as a creative team, they’ll learn how imagination, planning, and performance come together on screen. At the end of the session, families will be able to enjoy the finished film. This class is perfect for any child who loves movies, acting, or bringing big ideas to life!

This class is a basic cooking class for all ages. The focus is on creating dishes without needing to turn on an oven or stove. This class will help our young chefs create masterpieces that they can be proud of! (This will be an allergen-friendly class, based on participant sign- ups) **NUT-FREE GUARANTEED**

In this hands-on engineering class, kids will explore exciting activities while learning new skills like creative problem-solving, planning, and even a little interior designing. Participants will build towers, bridges that can hold weight, rubber band–powered cars, balloon-powered cars, wind-powered machines, and more. Each project encourages experimentation, creativity, and critical thinking. The goal of this class is for kids to have fun while discovering real-world skills they can use in everyday life.
Unleash your creativity in A&C Exploratory! Each week, kids will dive into exciting new art and craft projects, experimenting with different materials, techniques, and styles.
From painting and sculpting to imaginative hands-on creations, this class is all about exploring, discovering, and having fun while making something unique every time!
Focuses on movement and introducing kids to different sports–such as soccer, basketball, and more. Our staff have the kids moving around, learning the rules of the games, working together and having fun.
About Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do is the popular Korean martial art known for its dynamic kicking techniques. Participants learn skills and techniques in a safe, fun environment. Each student is looked at as a unique individual and as a member of a team. The skills taught are progressive with built-in incentives for students to achieve success and maximize potential.
Beginner students are introduced to a combination of kicking and punching techniques, self-defense and forms. The training also includes mental skills that improve memorization.
Intermediate to Advanced students are challenged with more complicated mental and physical skills, including advanced forms, self-defense techniques and the study of musculoskeletal systems and the history of martial arts.
Advanced students prepare for demonstrations and competitions, including advanced self-defense techniques, forms and weapons training (Bo Staff, Kamas and Nunchuks).
A uniform and sparring equipment can be purchased and is mandatory for testing purposes. Check must be made payable to the JCCNS. Tournament participation is not mandatory.
