About the Brass Trio musicians:
A native of Concord, New Hampshire, Joseph Foley received Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees from Boston University. He has performed in more than a dozen countries on four continents. Principal Trumpet of Portland Symphony and Rhode Island Philharmonic, and formerly Principal Trumpet of the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, he toured China as Guest Principal Trumpet of Pacific Symphony. He has performed and toured with Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Ballet of London, and New York Philharmonic. As soloist, he has performed with Boston Pops Orchestra, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Juneau Symphony, and at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. He was soloist in world premieres of Harold Shapero‘s Trumpet Concerto and Nan Schwartz’s Angels Among Us. His recording with Bonnie Anderson, Nightsongs, earned acclaim. A former member of Atlantic Brass Quintet, he has performed with Boston Symphony Brass Quintet, Empire Brass, Burning River Brass, and ALEA III. Mr. Foley has taught at Boston University, Berkshire Summer Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and New England Conservatory Preparatory Division. He is Professor of Trumpet at Rhode Island College, where he teaches chamber music and is Music Director of Wind Ensemble and Concert Jazz Band.
Kevin Owen is principal horn of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic. He has been a soloist with all of the above orchestras, as well as the New Haven Symphony, the Portland (Maine) Symphony, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Ocean State Chamber Orchestra, the North Shore Philharmonic, the Boston University Symphony Orchestra, as well as other orchestras. He has appeared on the David Letterman and Conan O’Brien shows with the rock groups Guster and My Morning Jacket. He has toured internationally with the Empire Brass, the Boston Chamber Music Society, and was a first place winner in five chamber music competitions with the Boston Wind Quintet. His compositions and arrangements for chamber groups and orchestra have been performed by the Rhode Island Philharmonic, members of the Portland Symphony, the Beacon Brass and the Boston Pops Esplanade Brass Ensemble.
Hans Bohn is a member of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Festival Orchestra and the new music ensemble, Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Hans performs regularly with the Boston Pops and the Esplanade Pops orchestra and can be heard on several Boston Pops recordings. He is a member of the Beacon Brass Quintet and Proteus 7 and has done several recordings with the Burning River Brass. In addition, Hans performs with symphony orchestras in Springfield, Rhode Island and Portland, and has appeared with the Battle Creek Brass Band, Empire Brass Quintet, Grand Rapids Symphony, the Heidelburg Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra de Mineria in Mexico and is a former member of the Handel and Haydn Society orchestra. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University, Hans teaches at University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
