Rosie Chén Bāměi, grew up loving martial arts - a fascination shared with his father, whose library was filled with books on folklore, ancient chivalry, poetry, natural healing, and traditional medicine. She has lived in Marblehead since 2000 with her husband, Joel, and her two children, who attended the JCC Infant Toddler Program. While working as a marketing specialist and raising her children, she renewed her love for martial arts training locally. However, it was not until 2015 that she experienced the profound essence of the body and mind practices of Tai Chi and Qigong. Rosie is a certified teacher and still trains with two Wudang Daoist priests: one, Master Zhou Xuan Yun, who now resides in NH, and the other, Master Zhong Xue Chao, in the Wudang Mountains in Hubei, China - a fabled and famous complex of Daoist temples and monasteries. The practice has transformed her outlook and priorities. Through the meditative healing of Qigong, the graceful movements of Taiji Quan, the internal power of Bagua Zhang, Xingyi Quan, and authentic traditional kungfu movements and weaponry, she finds true self-expression – uplifting and empowering. She describes it as a "poetic integration" of mind and body, a worthwhile lifelong pursuit of studying the ancient, an immersion that's good for the soul. Introducing and teaching these disciplines is a good thing worthy of sharing with the Marblehead community.
