The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife, Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family while their home sits mere yards away from the setting of the worst atrocities of recent history. Shot in and around the historic site of Auschwitz and anchored by Mica Levi’s haunting score, The Zone of Interest is an unforgettable meditation on the banality of evil.

NOTE: During his Best International Feature Film acceptance speech, The Zone of Interest Director Jonathan Glazer said: “Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation, which has led to conflict for so many innocent people.” More than 1,000 Jewish creatives, executives, and Hollywood professionals have since signed an open letter denouncing the controversial Oscar speech. Our JCCNS JFF Committee decided to keep this film in our 2024 festival line-up because it is a excellent, thought-provoking film.
